Good sound but misleading and missing key features
Pros: This system does have good sound and good bass for a small to mid sized room.
Cons: My main issue is that it claims to have Chromecast built in but can't stream video to the TV through the HDMI out on the soundbar. Why would you put a Chromecast in that can only stream audio. If someone wants to stream audio, they use bluetooth. So having a dedicated Chromecast in the sound bar that forces me to still have a chromecast on the TV is an absolute waste and completely miss leading in the description.
Also there are no equalizer settings what so ever beside bass levels. Most others have a music, TV, or Movie mode. You have zero options.
For this price the Chromecast should have video have some EQ options!

Would highly recommend!
I have been using this sound bar for about a week now and have watched movies, listened to music (via bluetooth), and played video games using it. It sounds extremely crisp and its clean sleek design makes it look good also! The remote has the option to toggle between Low, Med, or High bass. I feel that the sub woofer knows when you want a lot of bass and when you don't want a lot because its never overwhelming but at times one can definitely feel it. The range of volume is great, full volume is extremely loud and there is no loss of sound quality. One of the features I really like is the display on the front right side of the speaker that shows me what I select from the remote (Bass level, input, volume etc..) This product also seems very well built, the overall construction of the sound bar is very solid (It does not feel or look cheap). I definitely would recommend this sound bar to anyone looking for a sound bar!

Much better than my 3 Polk speaker setup
For several years I previously had a Sony A/V Receiver/Amp and 3 speakers. Sounded great but took lots of space. I wanted to utilize the smaller size of a sound bar but didn't want to spend $700+ to get the sound quality I was used to. I finally conceded that I probably wouldn't get the sound quality I wanted for the price I was looking to pay.
Man, I was shocked when I tested this sound bar out! I really was not expecting it to have such clarity for the price point, and the sub is legit. This soundbar easily sounds better than the $800 setup I had previously with the receiver and 3 speakers. Amazingly dialogue is crisper with this than with my dedicated center channel. It is fully worth every penny I spent. One of the few good things that happened to me in 2020!

Really high quality! GREAT Bass.
Finally visited BestBuy to replace our old Sony receiver that blew up. Was looking at sound bars and the salesman didn't even hesitate and brought me straight to this one. He played several different samples of movies that sound pretty terrible on the other soundbars, but not this one. Great range, really high fidelity, tons of bass. I actually got mine for $399.99 due to what he said being an "intro price" since it was new. Looks really sleek too, definitely higher quality materials than the others I saw.

Man this 5.1 soundbar and subwoofer is AWESOME! I switched to this from my regular samsung whole home theater system and this by far sounds waaaaaay better waaay more powerful and cost waaay less lol.. This thing sounds amazing! Bass is rich and powerful, the sound bar is crisp and clear and loud too, and yes the sounds while watching a movie bounces off my walls in my living and sounds like effects are all around me, Plus I have my subwoofer behind me against my back wall and sofa and let me tell you, this thing sounds way better then being in a movie theater, it has my siding and windows rattling outside of my house lol.. Love It! This is Top Notch Quality from JBL.. The best sound bar and subwoofer hands down for the price!

No 5.1 raw audio output HDMI with Netflix,Disney
A $100 sound bar can play dolby digital(DD), but unfortunately this device does not encode dolby digital plus(DDP). Netflix, Disney, Discovery uses dolby digital plus with AUDIO/eAC3 format. We are mislead by saying only Dolby Audio not the specific format. I wanted to return the product but unfortunately this is not possible. Spending $400 for a soundbar but not dolby digital plus output is decoded by this soundbar. I changed the audio setting from best available (DDP) to dolby digital always(DD) in my Amazon Firestick 4K but there is a audio sync delay(DDP to DD). In one word USELESS, if you are expecting to connect via HDMI(ARC) with Netflix 5.1 audio. Already raise a case with support team but no resolution yet. One more important thing is that you can either use SPDIF(optics) or HDMI ARC at a time(no use of CEC). Avoid this product, go for some other product.

Ok sound
Really disappointed with purchase.
If you want deep bass please go for the previous model. Subwoofer is crossover at 35 hz this model is crossover at 40 hz. Hence weaker bass.
Try to set it up at high still mediocre.
Can you please fix this in a future update ?
That would be really appreciated.

Good idea and execution but fall short
I bought this product, the building quality is good and a great idea if you don’t have much space and want to avoid cables.
There is just one “automated calibration” option, sadly no option to adjust the listening position or any balance, just the bass(1-5 levels) It would do great if it had more options like treble volume, etc.
The subwoofer is the best part of the kit very decent and more than enough power for any normal size living room.
Sadly the subwoofer stop working after 3 days from the day of purchase, tried to find any possible solution but the unit stop working without any apparent reason; the item was returned for a refund.
I would recommend this product if you’re not very picky about sound adjustments, I think is the only negative point, they simplified the system too much to make it very user friendly.

Great soundbar until update in December 2020
Warning to anyone looking to purchase this sound bar. I have had this bar for 7 months and was excellent when I first bought it, up until I it did an auto update in December 2020. Ever since the volume is so much lower and doesn't help when JBL resists the max Vol to 32. Which is ludacris given that their previous bar 5.1 which I owned (with detachable surrounds) exceeded this Volume tenfold.
I am shocked and annoyed that JBL has not done anything to fix this low volume issue and removing or increasing the limit.
As well as the soundbar can out perform most high end soundbar if an app was created to tweak the sound and/or equalizer.
Great bar with so much potential if only JBL listen to their customers and Qs on their site where owners have been complaint about the issue since he update.
Other way cheaper soundbar manufactures come out with new updates , tweaks and improvements .... But not JBL !!!!

Simple Setup, Amazing Sound!
Plug and Play! This system is so easy to setup. I primarily use it for TV sound as well as a bluetooth speaker for my living room. The simplicity of the system, including the included remote make this surround sound system perfect for anyone who is not very technically inclined.
As for the sound quality, it is everything you can expect from a JBL product. Super clear sound and house shaking bass (don't worry you can adjust this). You can also use the sound bar without the sub if your not looking for that added thump. There are still features of this system I have not gotten to use but will post an update once I do.
Overall I was impressed by the sound quality and the ease of setup. The only con I have is that the sub is rather large in size for my living room. Small house problems!

NOT USABLE WITH MOST DEVICES DUE TO PIN REQUEST
Bought these cause I wanted headphones that wouldn't fall out. I got that, they are comfortable to wear although sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. The real issue is that with a majority of the devices I have tried to pair it with require a pin from the earbuds. This pin is not listed anywhere in the manual and I have not been able to find a solution anywhere online although multiple others have inquired about it. I would stay away from these headphones until JBL gets proper customer/product support for these earbuds.

Very well balanced
Long term fan of JBL’s starting with L-100’s. I paired this with out Sony Smart TV using fiber optics and HDMI cables. The volume control on the TV works well with the speakers and sounds amazing. I installed Amazon Music on the TV and listen to a large variety of music genres and all sound terrific. Excellent bass and clear at full volume. My wife watches Victorian era movies and there was an unexpected explosion in one scene. The sound was incredibly realistic and startled me from the next room! JBL has my business for life!

Incredible sound
Got the soundbar in a massive box. Unpacked and was surpised at the ease of set up. I think i set it up in minutes. I also connected the soundbar to my phone which was easy as well. Now for the sound. The bass is unbelievable, and the sound quality is also unbelievable. After watching a Marvel movie I couldn't believe the sound. When I played music from my phone it was clear and excellent bass.

Super easy to use
Can honestly say I had this out of the box, connected to my tv and working in 5 minutes (most of that time was unpacking!). Connected to my phone and playing music via Bluetooth a minute later! The JBL Bar 5.1 Surround is simply super easy to use, with the only audio adjustments being bass (High, low, mid) and "smart mode" (on or off). I kept it at high bass until raising the volume then lowered to medium then low as I cranked it up. The sound was good, especially when you utilized the smart mode. I know some are more particular and like to be able to adjust bass, mid level and treble to their own liking, but JBL does a nice job with the smart sound/bass adjustment only. The unit has the ability to shake the windows and still sound good. Just a heads up, if you are looking for the manual on the website, this is the BAR 5.1 Surround, not the BAR 5.1

Well balanced and great quality
This is my first foray in the soundbar department and I went with JBL after listening to a smaller model at a friend's house. I was impressed with the quality of the sound. I found this model on Amazon and chose it because of the ability to use it with Chromecast and Airplay. It was very easy to setup and connect to my Google home app. I sampled several different music genres and watch different kinds of video programming. It is very well balanced and smart mode does a great job at anticipating the different listening media. The famous bass lives up to its name; solid and clear without muddiness. The mid and highs are clear and make dialogues easy to understand. The remote is simple and has the essentials. Connectivity through the HDMI (ARC) is consistent and responsive. The looks shows quality build.Very happy with my purchase.

Great sound!
As someone with a 5.1.2 system in the lounge I was frankly more than a bit sceptical about the ability of a sound bar to replicate Dolby Atmos, or anything like it.
Having read the review in Home Cinema Choice (with caveats relating to the bar's perhaps inadequate bass response, not surprising really) I was pleased to find the bar on JBL's site with the optional pairing of a wireless sub woofer - which I grabbed.
This set has been installed beneath a 55" TV in a guest bedroom and during the few brief opportunities to use it I have been astonished how much the listening experience has been enhanced, with clear separation of extraneous Atmos affects on soundtracks.
Very pleased with my purchase!

It is a good sound bar.
With decent bass.
However if you are after deep bass, then go for the previous jbl 5.1 or jbl 3.1
They sound better.
This model can only play till 40 hz, which is disappointing, for a 10 inch woofer.
Jbl left me disappointed.

Extraordinary Sound
This product is amazing, especially for the Bass quality when hearing audio and video. You won't be upset of JBL 5.1 surround sound . One great feature it gives is Chromecast and apple airplay only for audio which pairs with your phone for easier connection to hear your music anywhere at your home. I highly recommend this product to anyone who loves to watch movies and music in high volume. But the only con thing I could say about this product is that while connected with a phone or device it makes a weird pop sound every minute......

Amazing Soundbar, the whole package!
First of all, let me start by saying that I love the looks of this soundbar system. Very simple and clean, also great built quality. It looks great in my living room!
I will start this review with my favorite feature of the JBL Bar 5.1 Surround. I've had always thought that in order to get a full surround experience you needed to have actual physical speakers in the back or sides of your listening position, but this soundbar proved me wrong! The surround experience (or panoramic surround as JBL calls it) is amazing! Playing an action movie in 5.1 is a very satisfying and immersive experience.
The sound quality is great too! Crystal clear crisp sound, you can hear everything very clearly, from someone whispering in the movie to a loud explosion, all without the need to be adjusting the volume.
I am also impressed by the subwoofer, unlike other soundbar systems that I’ve seen this subwoofer is big, heavy, really high quality! The bass is big, tight and punchy!
The setup could’ve not been easier, just plug both the soundbar and the subwoofer to the power and most of the work will be done for you. You just need to connect the bar to the Wi-Fi for updates and Chromecast/Airplay functionality.

As the title said, had the sb450, the only drawback is the lack of settings, but put the bass to max, sit back, do nothing and enjoy your favorite movie with a very good soundbar, and it's more clear too, a lot.

Great Sound!!
After about a week of use, I am loving the full sound of the soundbar and subwoofer. I live in an apartment, so, for late night tv watching, I turn the sub off and still have excellent sound with just the bar. I would guess that my downstairs neighbors have definitely noticed my new sound system. I really enjoy the full sound for listening to music from my phone as well! I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Jbl has once again upheld it's standard in Audio quality. This sound system really is everything I'll need for a long time. Works great with video games, I love being able to stream my music from Google play right to it without even touching the system, movies sound like I'm at the movie theater, and the bass is perfect for music or movie since you can change it from high medium or low. Alea Free Sound Bar with Chrome cast
These days everything has Alexa but, this sound bar does not !, it has a Chromecast built in. My TV already has Alexa Built in so I didn't need it twice. "I wanted a speaker that has something else." This sound bar has a Chrome Cast . It saves me a port keeping me down to the max HDMI inputs, I have (4) and still hook up everything I want to hook up. Cable, KODI, PS5, & Fire Stick. The sound bar has all the features I was looking for Great sound, Dolby 5.1, Wireless Sub Woofer for great Bass, a Visible volume indicator, WiFi, Airplay 2 & Bluetooth.

I bought this to replace an old sound bar that was 2.1. This JBL bar blows out the other. I got a 65" TV too and with the JBL 5.1 sound bar and the TV I just think I'm watching a movie at the theater. Just Love It !!!!

I bought the Jbl 5.1 soundbeam soundbar And I want to know if I can buy another wireless JBL sub and pair two subs instead of one
Yes you can. I just purchased another 5.1 system. Now my problem is they are pairing up and I don't want them 2. They have the SAME name in BT, so they. Connect together. Guess isn't an intended feature since it was denied being able to do so in last two responses.

Hello, according to Dolby.com. Dolby Audio is comprised of Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD, Dolby Volume, Dolby Pro Logic IIZ, and Dolby AC4. Is this what comes with this Sound bar since it comes with Dolby Audio?
A $100 sound bar can play dolby digital(DD), but unfortunately this device does not encode dolby digital plus(DDP). Netflix, Disney, Discovery uses dolby digital plus with AUDIO/eAC3 format. We are mislead us by saying only Dolby Audio not the specific format. I wanted to return the product but unfortunately this is not possible. Spending $400 for a soundbar that does not support dolby digital plus. I changed the audio setting from best available(default/recommended) to dolby digital always(DD) in my Amazon Firestick 4k but there is a audio sync delay(DDP to DD). In one word USELESS, if you are expecting to connect via HDMI(ARC) with Netflix 5.1 audio. Already raise a case with support team but no resolution yet. One more important thing is that you can either use SPDIF(optics) or HDMI ARC at a time(no use of CEC).

Has anyone cast video to the built in Chromecast. I can't get this to work and this is the main reason I bought this bar was to use built in chromecast for video. Why would you only allow audio when there is Bluetooth for that. Seems pointless.

After the Update the Sound quality is bad. There is no such clear sound and the highs comes only by side speakers. Can you send mi PLEASE the "factory firmware" because i will set it back. The old bass high level with smart enabled was great!!!
@JBL support - soo may of the same issues reported for years and nothing has been done. One issue in particular has been reported in almost every post , how can you not see this or acknowledge it ? - The issue .....The sound of this bar is not loud enough. 32 is Max and its not loud. Cheaper soundbars sound better. Whats the update on this issue which has plagued us owners for going on 3 years now ?

When will you be releasing a mobile phone app for this soundbar like other cheaper soundbars. So that fine tuning can be done. Fine tuning equaliser , bass , treble , surround settings. This will make the soundbar one of the best out there.

Can someone please tell me why the 5.1 surround doesn’t seem like its 550W. I previously had a JBL 3.1 and could not even max it and the bass from it was breathtaking. This 5.1 is a bit disappointing l am even thinking of returning it. Is my unit faulty?

I had 5.1 normal version before with removable speakers and now this surround version. I feel that bass is very low anyhow its high mode. I just heared older version of 5.1 no surround system and there real Power.. what i can do?

So the sub is a little bigger then the place i want to put it, can this sub be placed on its side or does it have to stand upright.

Is there a noticeable difference between the 5.1 Surround and the Bar 3.1? Are the mids more irrelevant? Louder? Etc? Not too happy with the 3.1 but willing to give the new 5.1 a shot.

Hello, I am planning to buy this Bar 5.1 Multibeam on our local mall's Christmas Sale. Does it support dolby Atmos and dolby Vision? I have the JBL Bar 3.1 which sounds great and working perfectly until now.

Our JBL Bar 5.1 supports Dolby Digital only. Programs that have Dolby Digital Plus will not be decoded correctly. All information will likely get played through all the speakers.

We have a Sirrus XM non blue tooth home dock with only 3.5mm audio connection. I am wanting to use the JBL 5.1 and the speaker source for this. hdmi ports used by our satellite service. I tried using a convertor for digital input but no sound

Is there a way to make the HDMI input turn on when powering up instead of the TV? We have to run the cable box through the sound bar otherwise the video and audio do not sync. Would rather not have to change inputs every time.

How do you get stereo sound from the Bar 5.1 surround? There is an option for Smart Mode and Standard Mode. There is no Stereo Mode.
When you’re on Smart Mode on your JBL Bar 5.1, EQ settings and JBL surround sounds are applied for rich sound effects. On the other hand, only the preset EQ settings are applied when you’re using Standard Mode. Your speaker is automatically set to Stereo mode if you’re using HDMI or optical connection. If you’re using Aux cable, it would only play in Mono-sound mode.

Does the soundboard audio functions work with the firestick TV controller or is the audio solely operated by the soundboard remote?
As long as the the JBL Bar 5.1 Surround is connected to the Hdmi eArc of the TV and the CEC settings is set, the Amazon firestick should work well with the soundbar.

We upgraded to a new model JBL 5.1 Sound bar Surround, is there a way to adjust the base higher? The manual doesn't help at all. Our other 5.1 remote had more features to work with.
The bass level control is on the remote control on the left side of the HDMI button. You could press it one at a time for each bass level which is 1-5 or low-high.

I cannot find instructions on how to adjust the Soundbar. I have connected the unit to the ARC on my television. Is there supposed to be an equalizer that is viewable on my television? Is there a phone App? I want to adjust the center voice volume.

I have the JBL 5.1 Sorround Soundbar and recently the subwoofer plays but at random moments of the songs I play it sounds like it’s disconnecting but it connects back again in a few secs. Did not have this issue before.

Is the Subwoofer Bluetooth aswell
The connection between the subwoofer and soundbar of our JBL Bar 5.1 Surround is through a dedicated wireless frequency (2.4 gHz) between the bar and sub, it will not interfere with other wireless signals (Bluetooth).

I tried to calibrate my JBL Bar 5.1 Surround and it told me my calibration failed. I however was able to calibrate it successfully the night before and am not sure why it isnt working now. Its connected with the HDMI to the TV with the cable provided
