I like the product but it keeps going to sleep!
I've had the soundbar quite a while. As stated by others, if it doesn't detect sound it turns off. I wanted to use it for a PC speaker but it takes forever to reconnect once it goes to sleep. Hitting the volume control on the PC several times will wake it up but I would like it to respond better. I used 3.5 mm input, HDMI, and digital and all are the same. I'm going to buy another to replace it and am sad as I really like the sound it produces.

Amazing sound for such a low price tag
We were debating to buy this or to buy the JBL Flip 4, but it ultimately made more sense for our purposes to get the Bar Studio. The sound quality is amazing, there are five sound modes for completely different acoustic experiences depending on if you're watching a movie, tv, listening to deep bass music, surround sound etc. Small, compact, great price. We're thrilled!
(The lack of subwoofer didn't bother us as our family room is small)

Easy set up; exceptional sound.
When buying audio or video equipment, there is always a concern over how things get set up and work together. With the JBL Studio 2.1 sound bar, that wasn't a problem. Setup was a breeze, and worked flawlessly with my Samsung TV. Even the remote was paired for Samsung and other top brands out of the box. Sound is clear, rich and with the subwoofer, I'm hearing the full audio range of programs and movies. I highly recommend the JBL Studio.

My TV doesn't have ARC, so I have to figure somethig else out on how to hook it up and get it to work. Might end up having to buy some sort of converter !!!

Not Impressed at ALL!
Bought this about 45 days ago and been trying to use it because my older soundbar tweeters went out and thus, clarity was an issue. This new bar has clarity, but has ZERO depth or bass for the effects of a "true" movie experience, which is my entire goal.
What can I do to increase the bass? This sounds like a broader sounding TV speaker. SMH

Great sound!
Really happy with the upgrade to our television sound. It was a simple add that makes the television sound so much better! We like the 5 different modes it offers: standard, movie, music, sport, voice. We also have a JBL charge 2, and after a positive experience thought we would invest in the soundbar. Definitely don't regret the purchase!

There are sound issues
Overall the device is good... But there is one major flaw.
When there is a period of silence, such as in a quiz show, when the next person speaks, you miss the first few seconds of their sentence which is highly annoying.
I've read about PCM but that did not fix the issue.

Sound good for the size
Sound quality is good for the size, far bettrer than the LCD speakers, but the sound does frequently mute /fade in and out which was mostly cured by a software update.
I'm still left with occasional hiccups in sound even in the louder parts of audio.

Great for a small home theater set up
I’ve noticed a little of of connectivity issues with the studio as it will cut on when their is very low noise on the tv. Beyond that this sound bar was totally worth the price, the sounds are exquisite and it pumps out some great sound!

I bought the sound bar 2 weeks ago for the bedroom. It’s refurbished with a warranty from JBL. It works ok more than enough sound and it’s ok. For a living room I would want more detailed sound and bass.

Extremely clear sound
Voices couldn't be any clearer with good depth and separation. I'm very happy with the sound. The only thing I wish it had was the option to add a sub-woofer later if I wanted to.

Will not turn on. Manual has one suggestion in this scenario: to make sure it’s plugged in. Wow! Never would have thought of that. Brilliant. It’s dead. No way to reset it. Junk

The base on the sound bar is almost like a subwoofer and it has enough volume to fill a regular size room, unfortunately the Bluetooth went in and out creating distractions.

Value choice but shows its price point
First and foremost this is a huge improvement over my TV's built-in sound. For the price I don't think you can find much better than this. I love that I was quickly able to program my TV remote to control the basics (power, volume, mute).
That being said, if you have more money to throw around, you can get better quality. The LED indicators for volume/bass level, input, mode, power, etc. are not very intuitive; I have to keep the instructions handy if I want to change any settings. It's also hard to tell when the bar is on or off. A simple display (or even a light that comes on & stays on when the bar is powered up) would go a long way. As far as sound quality, I'm no audiophile but there's room for improvement (though, as I said, it's still far better than my TV by itself).
I read several reviews before buying that said the sound will cut out if the volume drops below a certain level, and it can be fixed by a firmware update. I bought a refurbished one and I haven't experienced this, so my bar may have been updated before I bought it. It seems to me that a voluntary recall would be a good way for Harman to make sure customers don't have to go through this process.
TL;DR - for the price, it's a good buy, but if - unlike me - you're willing to spend more, do so.

My TV which is a Visio didn't have an optical outlet, so I substituted and HDMI cable that I had. I am having some trouble but wondered if that would be a problem?? I have just reread the directions and will try some more.

I bought the bar studio around half years ago, it suddenly produces no sound on ANY sound mode (even after all reset, it connected through bluetooth, my phone can control it but no sound). Is there anything I've missed?

Will this device switch automatically to the optical input, if only the optical input is connected and active?
The JBL Bar Studio will not detect and switch to the Optical input; however, if Optical has been selected previously, it will wake up when the signal is live again.

To this sound bar can you add an additional wireless subwoofer of any brand?
Unfortunately there is no button to pair the soundbar to the subwoofer. In this case since the Soundbar has the Dual Bass Port design, You can change the Bass volume in the Soundbar to increase it or decrease it so you won't actually need a subwoofer for this Bar series.

Yes, you can connect the JBL Bar studio to your desktop computer using either the aux cable or an HDMI cable audio out for you to be able to play music with it.

hello, i have a samsung tv connected to the soundbar via optical cable. i sometimes have lags in the audio where in the middle of a video the sound just cuts for a second. this is very frustrating, what can i do?

The orange led flashing all the time. It seems to be a learning mode (for remote control), but i can't exit or programm. The soundbar doesn't responce to anything and turning off after 20 seconds. I can't reboot or reset it whith vol+, vol- , source.

I a few of your Bar Studio speakers and was wondering if there is a way of bypassing the Auto Standby, so that the unit stays on?
The JBL BAR Studio is designed to automatically switch to standby after 10 minutes of button inactivity and no audio/video play from a connected device. We cannot make changes into this.

Sadly no, this is not possible. The default source when powering on the BAR Studio is HDMI(ARC). I would also like to advise you to, if possible, connect your TV by HDMI or Optical cable, for the best sound experience. These 2 sources are both digital, where as the AUX input is an analog input.

It's hard to tell if it is powering on/off. I have connected to Bluetooth device and when I power the Soundbar off, it seems to remain connected to the device and wakes up automatically when I play more music.

The Bar studio is a 2.0 channel soundbar has one speaker on the left and right side for a stereo experience. Dolby 5.1 would not work for this soundbar since it would not play the other channels and would only get an incomplete sound.

Have connected to my panasonic tv via HDMI. sound bar appears to be linked: tv recognises the 'home cinema' sound output and I can control the volume level with the tv remote as it shows via the lights on the soundbar - BUT no sound coming from speaker!

Will this device work with Toshiba TV remote?
The JBL Bar Studio has a learning remote feature that can make it so that it can be operated through a remote control from a different device or manufacturer. For more instructions on how to do this, please consult the owner's manual of the soundbar on pages 6-7 for more information. As to see its compatibility with a Toshiba remote control, we have not tested it on Toshiba's brand of remote controls, but we have designed out soundbar so it can be compatible with most. If you already have this product, please follow the instructions as indicated on the manual, else contact our customer support for further assistance.
